Another month has come and gone and we are into fall.  I hear the dreaded “S” word may be on its way shortly for us.  I don’t think we will see another winter like we did last year, but here’s hoping.  The STA office is busily planning and organizing for our annual AGM on October 22, 2016 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Saskatoon.  I am looking forward to my first AGM and Gala as the Executive Director of the Association and meeting many of you for the first time.

I would like to hear from you, our members, on things that you believe are affecting the transportation industry.  For example, I recently had the opportunity to speak with one of our members on the Tire Recycling Fees in Saskatchewan and how our industry is currently paying $14 per tire and it will be increasing on January 1, 2017 to $19 per tire. Through some investigation, it appears that Saskatchewan pays some of the highest fees for recycling tires.  It is $9 per tire in Alberta and other provinces.  With the slowdown in our economy, it is important to support business in Saskatchewan.  I can see that paying a fee that is double what other provinces pay may not be the “Saskatchewan Strong & Diversified” economy that our government is trying to promote.  So, I ask you, what do you want to do?  The STA needs to hear from our members on this issue with costs and data so that we can approach the government with your concerns.
