Spring is finally here but we here at the STA have decided to call it “Sprinter” as we are now on our third winter season. Recently we held our annual networking breakfast in Saskatoon, which was one of our best-attended events. Faith Rowland with Diabetes Canada joined us to talk about the link between Diabetes and the Professional Truck Driving occupation. If you would like more information on the services that Diabetes Canada can offer your organization, please reach out to Faith at 306 700-2852.
Our team then presented a number of files that we have been working on including the Carbon Tax, HR Issues and the Truck Driver Shortage and upcoming TDG Changes that will affect those companies who haul dangerous goods. This was an excellent opportunity and format for discussion on how we, as a collective, can shape the policy that regulates the trucking industry. If you need information on any of these topics, please contact Nicole Sinclair for the Carbon Tax, myself for HR Issues and Russ Turgeon for anything TDG related.
I recently returned from the spring CTA meetings, along with our board contingent where the topics ranged from technology and the autonomous vehicle to the changes surround the Federal Budget and human resources areas for federally and provincially regulated trucking employers. Trucking HR Canada is slated to take over the Blue Ribbon Task Force on the Driver shortage and Saskatchewan will have representation on this new task force. There are changes in the works here and across Canada consultation will begin this spring with our members on what is happening with the people resources needed to move the transportation industry forward. The ELD Letter writing campaign has gotten a bit of a slow start in Saskatchewan and I would urge you to take a few minutes to click on the button in our previous correspondence and have your voice heard.
Our next big event is our MLA/Stakeholder Cocktail Reception, which will be held in Regina on May 10, 2018, at the Delta Marriott Hotel on Saskatchewan Drive. Invitations will be going out shortly so please mark your calendar as you won’t want to miss your opportunity to meet with members of our current government and other various stakeholders to talk all things trucking.
