Transport Minister Omar Alghabra issued a public statement March 2, which once again commits the Government of Canada to the third-party certified electronic logging device (ELD) mandate, coming into force in June 2021. The statement reinforced support for industry and government working together to develop a successful and progressive enforcement strategy.

STA thanks Minister Alghabra, Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Transport and all officials for their leadership in making this important regulation come into effect and for involving industry in the development of the progressive enforcement plan.

Susan Ewart, STA Executive Director says, “the STA is pleased with Transport Canada’s announcement that their commitment to a phased enforcement strategy for ELD’s with meaningful gradual enforcement. This is another important step to building on a culture of safety, professionalism and accountability.”

A committee has been formed to develop the progressive enforcement strategy and industry will be invited to the table. The STA can confirm that on this committee are reps from SGI and SK Ministry of Highway’s.
