FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Regina, SK – June 16, 2026 – The Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA) is expressing concern following today’s RCMP announcement of human trafficking charges tied to a trucking operation in the RM of Edenwold.
“Labour trafficking is a serious crime that exploits vulnerable individuals and has no place in Saskatchewan’s trucking industry,” said Susan Ewart, Executive Director of the STA.
“These allegations reflect broader challenges we have seen across Canada, where bad actors exploit immigration pathways and take advantage of workers through coercion, withheld wages, and unsafe working conditions.”
The STA emphasized that the vast majority of carriers operate legally and ethically, but cases such as this highlight the need for continued vigilance and stronger enforcement.
The Association is calling for:
- Enhanced vetting of employers accessing Temporary Foreign Workers and Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Programs
- Increased trucking compliance audits and enforcement
- Better protections for vulnerable workers
This incident also underscores the importance of the STA’s recently launched ‘See Something, Say Something’ campaign with Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers, which encourages drivers and the public to recognize and report the signs of human trafficking.
“The trucking industry travels every highway and into every community,” Ewart said. “Our members are uniquely positioned to help identify suspicious activity and be part of the solution.”
“Human trafficking is often hidden in plain sight,” Ewart added, noting that community awareness and reporting are critical to stopping exploitation.”
