History

Over 85 Years of Service to the Saskatchewan Trucking Industry.

History of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association

In 1937, with only 132 miles of paved roads and 2,402 miles of gravel roads across Saskatchewan, a determined group of truckers recognized the need for a unified voice to represent their interests with the provincial government. This led to the founding of the Saskatchewan Motor Transport Association (SMTA).

By the late 1950s, the organization evolved and adopted a new name: the Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA). Since then, STA has stood as a steadfast advocate for the trucking industry, leading efforts on key issues such as deregulation, weight and dimension standards, and industry safety and sustainability.

From local city halls to the Saskatchewan Legislature, and even the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, STA has consistently demonstrated strength, pride, and integrity. It continues to serve as the voice of Saskatchewan’s truck transport industry, ensuring that the concerns and contributions of its members are heard and respected at every level of government.

With a legacy spanning over
85 years, the STA logo has naturally evolved to reflect the growth and transformation of the organization.

In May 2016, the STA began a strategic rebranding initiative to modernize its image and better align with the dynamic nature of today’s trucking industry. While the iconic red truck from earlier logos holds a special place in our history, the decision to update our visual identity marked a bold step toward progress and relevance.

To celebrate 80 years of service in 2017, a commemorative anniversary logo was introduced—symbolizing not only our rich past but also our forward-looking vision. This evolution of our brand reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation, leadership, and the continued advancement of Saskatchewan’s trucking sector

Trucking has changed over the years

The Sasktchewan Trucking Association has been our industry’s advocate for over 85 years. During this time, we have seen numerous changes to our industry and our association.

PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES

Women Shifting Gears

Launched in partnership with YWCA Saskatoon and the Ministry of Immigration and Career Training. Women Shifting Gears was created to help address the gender gap in Canada’s trucking workforce, where only 4% of transport truck drivers are women. The program supports and empowers women to enter the industry through training and career development.
