Dave McIlmoyl of NRT Named Recipient of the 2025 STA Omnitracs Service to the Industry Award
October 22, 2025
Regina, SK – The Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA), in partnership with Omnitracs, is proud to announce that Dave McIlmoyl, President of Northern Resource Trucking (NRT), has been named the recipient of the 2025 STA Omnitracs Service to the Industry Award.
This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and long-term commitment to advancing Saskatchewan’s trucking industry.
A Vision That Changed the North
Dave McIlmoyl’s journey in transportation began through his work with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band in the 1980s, where he served as Executive Director. Under the leadership of then-Chief, now Senator Myles Venne, the Band sought new ways to create sustainable employment for northern residents. Recognizing the opportunities within Saskatchewan’s growing mining sector, Dave was instrumental in forming a partnership with Trimac Transportation—a collaboration that led to the creation of Northern Resource Trucking (NRT) in 1986.
From its inception, NRT’s purpose extended beyond hauling freight—it was designed to train and employ northern residents, opening doors for individuals who may not have otherwise had access to the trucking industry. Dave worked with the Band to form the company, later serving as Vice President and now as President, guiding NRT through nearly four decades of growth and success.
Decades of Impact
Under Dave’s leadership, NRT has not only delivered exceptional service to its customers but has become a cornerstone of opportunity and training in northern Saskatchewan. The company’s driver training programs exceed industry standards and have served as a model for developing skilled professionals across the province.
Since its founding, over 400 Saskatchewan residents have earned their 1A licences through NRT’s training programs. Many of these graduates have gone on to become professional drivers, owner-operators, mine workers, highway workers, traffic supervisors, and even RCMP officers. Each success story stands as a testament to Dave’s vision and dedication to fostering growth and opportunity through transportation.
As NRT’s ownership expanded to include more northern partners, even more communities gained access to meaningful employment and training. What began as a single idea for a partnership has grown into a multimillion-dollar enterprise that has supported hundreds of families and strengthened Saskatchewan’s northern economy.
“Dave McIlmoyl’s leadership and vision have left a lasting legacy in Saskatchewan’s trucking industry,” said Susan Ewart, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association. “His dedication to building opportunity through training and collaboration has made a real difference for northern communities and the province as a whole. The STA is honoured to recognize him with the 2025 Omnitracs Service to the Industry Award.”
