Trucking HR Canada releases special labour market information report: driver vacancy rate hits historic high

Trucking HR Canada (THRC) released a special labour market information report highlighting a staggering vacancy rate in drivers moving into 2022. This Special Report: Vacancies in Trucking and Logistics, provides a THRC analysis and perspective on an intensification of the labour market pressure on the trucking and logistics sector.
Special report highlights include:
- The total number of vacancies for transport truck drivers has increased to 22,990 jobs, an historic high since Statistics Canada began tracking vacancies in 2015. This represents a 20% surge in driver vacancies over the second quarter of 2021.
- The vacancy rate in truck transportation is 8% which is the second highest rate in the economy after the accommodation and food services sector.
- In the third quarter of 2021, 44.3% of driver jobs have been vacant for more than 90 days – compared to 34.4% in quarter two.
