“F” Endorsement Expiry

Effective March 1, 2021, the F endorsement will be discontinued. Anyone who wishes to drive a Class 1 commercial vehicle in Saskatchewan will need a Class 1 license. This means that anyone wanting to operate on a Class 1 license will be required to complete the mandatory entry-level training (MELT) program at 121.5 hours.

• All existing F endorsement holders will need to complete the 121.5 hours of MELT if they want to operate any Class 1 vehicle in Saskatchewan after March 1, 2021
• On March 1, new class 3 licenses with endorsements 1 and A will be automatically generated and mailed to customers who previously held a license with an F endorsement. Drivers may not receive their new physical licenses until a few days later.
• A Class 3 1A license permits drivers to drive tandem axle trucks (but not power units) equipped with air brakes towing trailers under 10,000 lbs., and Class 1 vehicles as a learner with a supervising driver.

Temporary Foreign Workers

Effective March 1, 2021, Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) wanting to drive a Class 1 vehicle in Saskatchewan will be required to complete the mandatory entry-level training (MELT) at 121.5 hours.

• TFWs will no longer be able to operate a Class 1 vehicle in Saskatchewan with their existing out-of-country license.
• Drivers who come from a country where Saskatchewan has a reciprocal licensing agreement will be able to challenge the Class 1 written and practical exams without completing training if they can prove five years of Class 1 driving experience.

• If the TFW comes from a country that does not have a reciprocal agreement, they must complete Class 1 mandatory entry-level training before being eligible for a Saskatchewan Class 1 driver’s license.
