The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will adjust the hours of operation at 35 land ports of entry across Canada as of 12:01 a.m. (local time) on January 6, 2025.

These changes, coordinated with the United States, aim to:

  • Improve security for both countries.
  • Allow officers to focus on busier border crossings.
  • Help process travellers and goods more efficiently.

The U.S. is also adjusting its border hours to align with Canada. This ensures both sides of the border remain open or closed at the same times, making it easier to handle inadmissible goods or travellers.

Key Details:

  • The changes were made based on traffic patterns and service needs.
  • Most affected crossings currently handle fewer than two vehicles per hour during the times that will be reduced.
  • Alternative border crossings are available within 100 km of almost all affected ports.

A public announcement was released November 18, 2024 regarding these changes, which you can read here: The CBSA is adjusting hours of service at land ports of entry across Canada - Canada.ca
